This fabulous antique walking cane which dates from c1900 is made from bamboo, has a Japanese mythical figure skilfully carved into the end to use as the handle and has fine detail to the carving.
This unusual carved stick which was made using a heavy bamboo type wood shaft has a hallmarked sterling silver collar, horn ferrule, is a chunky weight and a good length at 97 cm long.
The silver collar is engraved with the original owner's details which are B.B.J. 1 Woodside Avenue, Brighton and is hallmarked.
This desirable cane would make a very nice unusual piece for a walking stick collector.
Materials: Bamboo. Sterling silver. Horn ferrule.
Date: Meiji period - c1900.
Hallmark: Maker's mark T.D for Thomas Davis. Date letter and town mark are worn but looks like London.
Dimensions: 97 cm (38") Length. 4.5 cm (1 3/4") Width at widest part of handle.
Weight: 542 g.
Condition: Excellent usable antique condition with signs of use in keeping with age. Some light scratches, a few bruises and some tarnishing to silver and general wear. There is a crack in the wood near the ferrule but this does not effect or weaken the stick. Please see pictures.
