This large, heavy and impressive silver plated racquet trophy cup which dates from c1900 has a fine original engraving of a pair of racquets and an inscription to the front which reads

The reverse shows a handsome engraving of the coat of arms for Clifton College Bristol with their motto of SPIRITUS INTUS ALIT (which means The spirit fosters within).

Rackets or racquets is an indoor racket sport and was popular in UK colleges in the early 20th century. Clifton College Bristol is listed on the Wiki rackets page as having one court and has a picture of team members in 1902.

This unique and early rackets trophy which has an impressive height at 24 cm would make a fine collector's piece.

Dimensions: 12 cm (4 3/4") Diameter. 24 cm (9 1/2") Height.

Weight: 598 grams.

Condition: Good antique condition with signs of use in keeping with age. Some marks, surface scratches, tarnishing and small bruises. Slightly out of shape and sits uneven. Inside has heavy tarnish. Please see pictures.
