These two fine antique wine bottle coasters which are made by renowned silversmith James Dixon & Sons are of excellent quality and date from 1844.

These very early Victorian bottle holders which are made of silver plate have hallmarked sterling silver plaques mounted on their wooden bases and are nice usable antique pieces that would look beautiful in your home.

These charming coasters have some wear to the silver plate with a warm copper colour showing through which add to their wonderful look.

Material: Silver Plate. Wood. Silver.

Date: 1844.

Maker: James Dixon & Sons.

Marks: Marked to side of the coaster with maker's mark for James Dixon and Co. 348.

Hallmarks: Hallmarked to the centre with the maker's mark for James Dixon and Co. Lion for sterling silver. Queen Victoria's head. Crown for Sheffield and date letter A for 1844.

Dimensions of each coaster: 20.5 cm (8") Outer diameter. 12.5 cm (4 3/4") Inner diameter. 4.5 cm (1 3/4") Height.

Total weight for the pair: 604 g.

Condition: Very good used antique condition with signs of use in keeping with age. Some light surface scratches, small marks and light tarnish. No damage, breaks or splits. Some wear to the silver plate with a warm copper colour showing through leaving a wonderful look. Please see pictures.
