This unusual letter opener/paper knife dates from c1880 and is made of French 950 silver with a Mother of Pearl handle and a blank gold shield cartouche.
This would have once been a fruit knife but today makes a wonderful quality letter opener that also looks very nice on show. The cartouche has not been monogrammed so you could easily get this engraved and it comes in a presentation case so would make a great gift.
