This vintage wooden rattle which dates from c1939 was originally an ARP Air Raid rattle used during WW11.

This rattle which is embossed with the maker's details for W. Clements & Sons and with A.R.P and dated 1939. This has since been repurposed and repainted to use as a football rattle. The new owner painting it with their football team colours (blue and white).

During WW2 ARP Wardens would alert the public of a gas attack using a gas rattle like this one by Clements & Sons. Following WWII these rattles became obsolete for civil defence so were repurposed as noisy football rattles in stadiums.

This is in full working order so makes a very loud rattle sound and would make a fantastic display item to go with a collection of football or War memorabilia.

Dimensions: Width: 27.5 cm (10 3/4"). Depth: 6 cm (2 1/2"). Height including handle: 22.5 cm (9").

Weight: 558 g.

Condition: In very good used vintage working condition with signs of use in keeping with age. Some wear, chips, marks and scratches giving the piece a nice patina. We have not cleaned or removed any patina so has a wonderful look. Works very well and very loud. Please see pictures.
