This beautiful glazed terracotta wall hanging which originates from Bavent in France dates from c1900 and is in the form of white cat which has green glass eyes.

This decorative piece was manufactured by the iconic Poterie du Mesnil de Bavent and is embossed with the maker's Bavent mark to the cat's body and Made in France.

Poterie du Mesnil de Bavent is located in Calvados, Normandy and have been producing roofing accessories and architectural items since 1842. They are famous for their ceramic animals (cats, dogs, chickens etc).

The cats were originally designed to be attached to a roof tile to deter vermin.

A charming antique piece of Bavent that would look amazing on display and a sought after collector's piece.

Condition: Very good antique condition with signs of use in keeping with age. The usual cracking to glaze, small chips and firing marks. An old repair to one leg. Please see pictures.
