This scarce antique tennis ball cleaner which is made of cast iron is The Lightning model by Suffolk Iron Foundry and dates from the early 20th century.
The ball cleaner is marked to the front The Lightning - Tennis Ball Cleaner - S.I.F with two bolts of lightning and is designed to be mounted on a wall by the three cast iron feet.
This heavy piece which still has the remains of it's green paint can clean up to four tennis balls at a time by placing them inside and turning the wooden handle which turns the mechanism inside brushing the balls against the internal bristles.
A sought after sporting item that is in nice working original condition. Would make an interesting display piece for a tennis club, shop, prop or museum.
