This charming Napoleonic Prisoner of War straw work sewing box which dates from c1810 would have been made by a prisoner held captive during the Napoleonic wars.

Unusually, the top half of this antique box has a glass fronted shellwork panel which is wonderfully decorated with different size and shaped shells.

This hinged lid lifts to reveal a mirror, three inner lidded compartments, two pincushions and the underside of the box has four carved mutton bone feet.

This antique wooden box has been intricately decorated with different coloured straw to the outer and inside with some of it being dyed to create the beautiful designs.
