This fabulous American silver cake basket which is by top silversmith J.E. Caldwell & Co, Philadelphia is excellent quality with wonderful detail and dates from c1900.
This ornately designed basket has grapes, vine leaves and cupids decorated all around the outer edge, a trellis pierced base and a central cupid panel. The basket is oval in shape with a swing handle and sits on four ball feet.
J.E. Caldwell & Co were a top silversmith and jewellery maker who acquired a national reputation for providing silverware to battleships and cruisers of the US Navy and they exhibited at The Centennial Exposition in 1876 representing the American Jewellery Maker.
This basket not only looks wonderful on display but would make a nice collectable piece for a silver collector.
